When it comes to fun for me, you can't get much better than playing a good video game. I've been a gamer for as long as I can remember, and for good reason! It's a lot of fun to pick a game up and play it and really dive into the story and the characters and see where the story goes. Even for games that don't have much of a story, like the original Sonic the Hedgehog trilogy, it's always fun to me to play the game and make up elements to the story, if I must, to make it more enjoyable. I'm the kind of guy, or at least was when I was younger, that I could get a Sonic toy and go nuts making all kinds of adventures for him that countinued outside of the main game, and in a way I never really lost it. I can enjoy the game and put it down after the story has come to its end, but I've always been the kind of guy that says "what happens now?" Well thankfully I'm not the only one who has an interest in continuing the story, for a lot of the games I'm into have different books and comics that continue where a particular game story may have left off. Or there may even be a book that serves as a prequel to the main game that I may have played, and that really adds so much to the story and makes the game more enjoable to me.
I love the fact that Sonic the Hedgehog, although having a lot of fun games, has a lot of other ways to enjoy the story and really move the character beyond the games. I have comics of Sonic the Hedgehog that are enjoyable and add so much to the game story. I also have Sonic toys, Sonic shirts and hats, and a DVD of the old Sonic cartoons. It's really a blast to me, to see and enjoy the story in other ways then just by playing the games. The games are the reason I like and want the other products, but the fact that it's so great to me really helps in my pursuit of these things. I've really gotten into Tomb Raider lately, because of my new wife, and I love that not only does each game tell a great story and is fun, but there is also books series and comics that you can buy and read to help conect directly with the story to keep it going. Mass Effect also is a series that I'm a major fan of that has books, toys, and different merchandise that continues the story. And the list goes on and on.
One thing that has always stood pretty strongly with me is making your own story with the characters or athletes. For instance, I'd take my diecast NASCAR stock cars and make NASCAR the way I wanted to, making myself a driver and my friends alongside me, and changing how the history looked. In addition to using toys I'd also use my imagination and make things the way I would like them, making the characters and story of Kingdom Hearts run into Sonic the Hedgehog and so on. But that's not all for me, especially with a little help. Video games like Little Big Planet for Playstation 3 give you the tools and abilities to make not only your own characters, or ones based on personal favorites like Sonic, but you can even play in worlds that are based on games like Tomb Raider or Sonic! I'm a MAJOR fan of that element, that you can basically continue your love for a particular video game outside its own games. I have no problem enjoying video games for what they are and loving the story, but I've always wanted and been a big fan of the game continuing in some for or fashion, so it's really fun to know that there are books, toys, clothes, and even other video games that make that a possibility.
