Spyro the Dragon is a great, memorable video game series. It was one of the first video game series I ever played on the original Playstation. And I've loved it ever since. It's a simple enough game concept, you play as Spyro, a purple Dragon who's always on a quest to stop the main villian and their plot. One of my favorite parts about this platforming game is that you don't even have to be pursuing the main story line to have fun. In some games you need to be chasing the main villian down to really enjoy the experience, but in Spyro you have a lot of side missions that you can play and enjoy and totally forget the main villian. Well that's true to an extent. The bonus items you win from helping the various worlds folks are needed to get to the area to fight the final boss fight, but still the fact remains that you have a choice on what to do and when.

Spyro the Dragon 2 is my favorite game of the series easily, but the first 3 Spyro games are all great. I love the story they tell and the fun adventuring that they all had. Playing through the different games was a true joy. The story was very enjoyable, the music was very memorable, and the voice acting was great. It really had all the ingredients of a great trilogy, and it definitely complied with such ingredients. But that's where it really went downhill. The original Spyro games were jewels for the Playstation, but after those three the shine began to go away. Spyro 4 was a fun game, don't get me wrong, but it wasn't worked on enough and suffered from glitches, long load times, and an incomplete game. They didn't put in all the worlds they wanted and changed how many collectable items you could get to catch up with the release of the Playstation 2 and Gamecube. So although it was good, it wasn't great at all.

Then Spyro 5 came out, and it was back to a better time for Spyro. It was definitely better than 4, although not quite like the first 3. But the series did have some of its flame back, pun intended. But that was the final straw for the awesome Spyro the Dragon series. The Legend of Spyro series was an absolute joke, and failed in every way. And now there is a new game coming out, but is geared toward 10 year old children. It's sad that such a great game series had to die like this, but hopefully they will realize that the first 3 were what made Spyro big in the first place and go back to games like that.
